The pitch for turning left on the plane before an international race is seductive: spend on the flat bed, arrive rested, save yourself two ruined days. There is a real effect hiding in there, but it has quietly been swapped for a bigger one it cannot deliver. A lie-flat seat fixes one of the two things that wreck you in transit, and it is not the one that decides your race.
Arriving wrecked is two separate problems that feel like one.
